One of the reasons behind the success of a business is its understanding of the local community in which it operates, together with a commitment to that community. To that end, we are continuing our tradition of community support through our pro bono initiatives, our contributions to worthy causes, and the leadership our lawyers as well as administrative staff provide to community organizations, large and small.

One of  The Firm recognizes that this work rewards the Firm, and those who become involved, with enormous benefits. The Firm believes that these activities provide valuable personal and professional development. It responds to the desire of many individuals to use their skills and experience to help others and to give something back to society. As such, we have adopted several human rights and women's rights cases on a pro-bono basis with the aim of creating significant precedents or changing discriminatory provisions of certain laws. One example is the Nationality Law which discriminated against the children of Egyptian mothers. Another example is the famous human rights case of Professor Nasr Abou Zeid.  The firm has established a large number of leading non-governmental organizations and foundations including the Citadel Capital Scholarship Foundation, Ashoka Egypt, Endeavour Egypt, Education for Employment Foundation, Mohamed Hassanein Heikal Foundation for Arab Press, Habitat for Humanity International, Development of technological Education Foundation and the Egyptian Education Foundation. Shalakany Law Office has been providing access to critically needed legal assistance to a large number of non-governmental organizations operating in Egypt for many years including: International Foundation for Electoral Systems, The Carter Foundation, PILPG, Oxfam, Coptic Orphans, IMS Productions Aps., World learning, Crisis Action, Research Triangle Institute, Injaz Egypt, Meshwar Organization for Community Development, Abdullah Al Nadeem and the Egyptian ADR Association.

We also encourage our staff members to contribute to the community as a whole; we contribute financially to charitable organizations. Individuals within the Firm also raise funds for charities by urging staff to participate in charity events on different occasions throughout the year. Many of our staff members are active members in a number of dynamic charitable and non-governmental organizations in Egypt, such as the Abdullah El Nadeem NGO operating in Bassous Village, Qalyoubia Governorate, the Egyptian Alternative Dispute Resolution ADR Association that is pioneering the application of mediation for the settlement of business disputes in Egypt, the New Woman Foundation, and Meshwar Organization for Community Development. The social responsibility of the members of Shalakany Law Office is reflected in donating not only financial and other material resources, but also in volunteering time, skills, experience and effort.
