One of the reasons behind the success of business is its understanding of the local community in which the business operates, together with commitment to the community. To that end, we are continuing our tradition of community support through our pro bono initiatives, our contributions to worthy causes, and the leadership our lawyers provide to community organizations, large and small. We also recognize that this work rewards the Firm, and those who become involved, with enormous benefits. The Firm believes that these activities provide valuable personal and professional development. It responds to the desire of many individuals to use their skills and experience to help others and to give something back to society.

As such, we have adopted several human rights and women's rights cases on a probono basis with the aim of creating significant precedents or changing discriminating provisions of certain laws. One of the examples is the Nationality Law which discriminated against the children of Egyptian mothers. Another example is the famous human rights case of Professor Nasr Abou Zeid.

We also act for a number of local charitable organizations including the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer, SOS projects in Egypt and the Women’s Health Improvement Association.

We also encourage our staff members to contribute to the community as a whole; we contribute financially to individual charities. Individuals within the firm also raise funds for charities by urging staff to participate in charity events. Many of our staff members are active members in a number of charitable and non-governmental organizations.

The Year 2006 has seen Shalakany Law Office collecting funds in an attempt to support the unfortunate civilians of Lebanon during the Israeli Attacks, especially women, children and the elderly, Shalakany Law Office proudly led an internal fund raising campaign in July. Collected funds for humanitarian aid were directed to the Red Crescent and the Red Cross organizations in Lebanon.

The Year 2004 has seen Shalakany Law Office partnering a non-governmental organization, “Meshwar,” in a joint effort to empower and develop marginalized members of our society by providing training and support. The social responsibility of the members of Shalakany Law Office is reflected in donating not only financial and other material help, but in volunteering time, skills, experience and effort to further the goals of “Meshwar.” This represents just one of the “special projects” supported by Shalakany Law Office.
